Adjuvant in the prevention and treatment of visual disorders
For dogs and cats.
Technical characteristics
Optivet® is a dietary supplement developed by König Laboratories to support visual well-being.
Carotenoids (lutein, beta-carotene, among others) are antioxidant compounds that protect cells from damage caused by free radicals:
Beta-carotenes are precursors of retinol (vitamin A), an essential component of the photodetector pigment rhodopsin. This pigment, present in canes, is essential for vision in low light conditions. In addition, retinol helps prevent and treat keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that cannot be efficiently synthesized by the body. The needs for DHA are especially high, as it is an essential nutrient for visual and neurological development. It acts on the retina, exerting a protective function at the level of the cell membrane, and plays a key role in the
regeneration of rhodopsin. DHA supplementation has been proven to help prevent
macular degeneration and improve the symptoms of dry eye syndrome.
